Abstract

This study aims to determine the application of classification system of St Ignatius College Library, to know the background of the classification system used in the collection of St Ignatius College Library, to determine the development of classification system. This research is qualitative research, data collection using observation, interviews, and documentation. Informants of this study were Mr Setyawan, Mr Kieser, and Mr Suparwanto. Data analysis techniques are data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and the draw conclusions or verification. Examination tecniques are to test the validity of data credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. The survey result reveal that the classification system in collection of St Ignatius College Library uses two classification systems based on subject and high collections. The use of the classification system was match to classify the collections of special library such us St Ignatius College Library which has teology subject collection. Classification system in St Ignatius College Library is Good or 78% from all criterias , due to meet the seven characteristics of good classification system such as universal, comphrehensive , detailed, , systematic, flexible, has a simple notation and using clear terms, have regulatory body although this classification system does not have index and table or 22% from all or criterias. The development of classification system is limited . The recommendations for St Ignatius College Library should be developed the classification system based on the characteristic of good classification system such us systematic, flexible, has a simple notation, using clear terms, detailed, universal, comphrehensive, has index, and has regulatory body; should be think about the use of information technology update in the collection retrifying to more effectively and efficiently.
