Abstract

Azotobacter sp is one of important microorganisms which is role in maintaining soil fertility. Azotobacter sp is a nitrogen-fixing bacteria that live freely. Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is an important food comodity that provide high protein, number two after soybean. This study was aimed to determine the effect of manure (cow, goat, and chicken dung) to Azotobacter sp abundance and growth of peanut plants (Arachis hypogaea L.). Samples of field soil were sterilized and treated with chemical fertilizer and three kinds of manure (cow, goat and chicken dung). Each treatment then was inoculated with Azotobacter sp.The abundance of Azotobacter sp was measured by plate count method, while the growth of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) was measured based on the number of leaves, plant height and root length. The result showed that addition of manure didn’t cause a significant difference to the amount of Azotobacter sp. While the data of plant growth showed that treatment result in a significant difference to the number of leaves, but not to the plant height and root length of peanut plants (Arachis hypogaea L.).The manure of cow, goat and chicken dung can support the growth of Azotobacter sp and peanut plants (Arachis hypogaea L.).
