Abstract

The research about “The Role of The Library for The Inmates at Bantul Penitentiary (Rutan) Yogyakarta” aims to formulate the role of the library for the inmates at Bantul Penitentiary Yogyakarta in developing science of technology (IPTEK) and taqwa and faith (IMTAQ). This research uses qualitative descriptive method. Data collecting method uses observation, interview and documentation. Data analysis in this study uses Matthew B. Milles & A. Michael Huberman theory, those are (1) Data reduction, focusing on the theme of the research (2) Data presentation, explains based on observation, interview, and documentation, and (3) Making conclusion, to conclude the results of the analysis after completing data analysis. While the data validation test in this study was done by four ways: credibility, trasferability, dependability, and confirmability. The results from this study are the role of the library for The Inmates at Rutan Bantul: (1) The role of non-formal education, that providing training to the inmates for non formal education building, (2) The role of independent education, (3) As the recreation center, (4) The role of the library for the inmates in building of faith and taqwa. Library at the penitentiary is expected to work with several publishers to add more sources for the existing collections.
