Abstract

The tourist sector contributes significantly to the country’s development and has a big potential. Therefore, it could as well contribute to innovations of communication and information technology. Development of the tourism sector should be based on technology development. The district of Bantul has a big variety of several important and tourism sights, which are spread all over the District with a wide range of different routes and locations. Therefore, it might be confusing for tourists to locate them. Based on this problem, the writer will try to create an information system which can be integrated in google maps as a visual media map including all sight-seeing spots completed with an application which efficiently recommends the shortest routes. A * algorithm is implemented as a formula to browse for the shortest route between two sight-seeing objects. It shows the shortest route based on the direction of the closest object showing all other destinations, considering towards the destination aimed for. Inputs are the first destination and the final destination, while the outputs provided are the direction and shortest route. The data of the object was acquired from research to the Department of Culture and Tourism of Bantul. From the result of the research conducted, the result of the browsing system is compared to manual manner giving the same results as those attained by using A* algorithm to determine the shortest route of tourism destination.
