Abstract

This research aims to describe collection development in SD Muhammadiyah Gendeng Darussalam Yogyakarta’s library and to identify problems faced during collection development activities in SD Muhammadiyah Gendeng Darussalam Yogyakarta's library. The type of research used by the researcher is a field study conducted in SD Muhammadiyah Gendeng Darussalam Yogyakarta's library. Furthermore, data collecting methods used are documentation, observation, and interview. As soon as data were collected, the researcher did data triangulation to compare data obtained from documentation, observation, and interview. After data checking, a data analysis was done using Miles and Huberman’s analytical steps namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusion. The result of this research shows that collection development in SD Muhammadiyah Gendeng Darussalam Yogyakarta’s library are including policies of developing collection, selecting collection, provisioning collection, evaluating collection, and weeding collection. Based on that conclusion, the researcher suggests written policies to direct collection development, sufficient amount of fund, and cooperation with other schools’ library. In addition, proper librarian should also be placed on proper subject.
