Abstract

A study concerning the application of LED and photodiode detection system as cooking oil mixed plastics has been done. The study aims to investigate the characteristics of photodiode, making detection system of cooking oil mixed with plastic, and test the detection system on a sample of pure cooking oil and cooking oil mixed with plastics. Photodiode characterization process is done by varying the light intensity of LEDs. In the manufacture of circuit sensor detection system utilizing a voltage divider circuit with a resistor and photodiode that is arranged in series. Test sample testing conducted using a sample of pure cooking oil, cooking oil with 0,1 grams, 0,3 grams and 0,5 grams plastics. The photodiode characterization results shows that photodiode has a transfer function V = 0.13261 + 0.073853I; input and output relationships are very strong with a correlation coefficient r = 0,99; the sensitivity of the sensor by 0,073853 volts/lux; repeatability of 99,79%; and saturation on the input values ≥ 65 lux light intensity. Detection system that has been created has a 100% success rate.
