Abstract

Superconducting YBa2Cu3O7-x (YBCO-123) is one of the superconducting critical temperature as high as Tc ≈ 93 K which can be cooled with liquid nitrogen having a boiling point ≈ 77K. This study aims to observe the Meissner effect as a test of the material characteristics of superconducting YBa2Cu3O7-x to show the nature of superconductivityobserving the structure of the surface morphology and element content using SEM-EDX technique, and conduct studies of superconducting YBa2Cu3O7-x for the application of a magnetic field on the cyclotron at the PSTA-BATAN Yogyakarta. superconducting material when analyzed using SEM techniques have irregular morphology microstructure with an average grain size ≈ 3,575 μm. Based on EDX analysis, the superconductor material YBa2Cu3O7-x contains the elements C, O, CO, Y and Ba. Each has a percentage of 25,84% by weight, 18,50 wt%, 02,81%, 10,57% by weight, 31,60% by weight. Based on the results of the theoretical study of the cyclotron uses a magnetic field to a superconductor material YBa2Cu3O7. These materials have the potential that can be used to generate a magnetic field in a cyclotron accelerator with the conditions of 5 mm diameter wire which has a critical temperature (Tc) = 90 K, the critical current (Ic) = 22.221.593 A, the critical magnetic field (Bc) = 8.88 T after cooling at 60 K are wound on an iron pole diameter of 910 mm. The magnetic field superconducting cyclotron is designed to operate current 1000 A to generate a magnetic field > 7 T so as to produce a particle kinetic energy of 200 MeV.
