Abstract

22 The background of the study is the presence of commercial sex workers. They are considered as a social disease in everywhere, since it has emerged in accordance with the human civilization. Various efforts have been done to make any solutions with various approaches as well but it remains unsolved. The aims of this study are: 1) to identify the personality factor influence toward commercial sex workers' behavior in Gorontalo; 2) to identify the influence of social environmental factors toward commercial sex workers' behavior in Gorontalo; 3) to determine the difference between the influence of personality factors and social environmental factors toward commercial sex workers' behavior in Gorontalo; 4) to determine the intensity of influence of personality factors and social environmental factors toward commercial sex workers' behavior in Gorontalo. This study uses psycho-social approach with both psychology and sociology theoretical frameworks. The data are obtained from the commercial sex workers in Gorontalo. This is a cross-sectional study with a descriptive analytical design and the data was collected through questionnaire, interviews, and observation. The factors triggering the presence of commercial sex workers are: 1) personality disorders; 2) social environmental factors such as open conflict, inconsistent regulation, unconstructive criticism, unhealthy competition, and overdisciplined family implementation; 3) the influencing intensity that includes education, occupation, marriage, and family problems factors; 4) factors that affects human personality. In conclusion, personality and social environmental factors have an important role for individual particularly commercial sex workers in Gorontalo.
