Abstract

This paper is motivated by anxiety related to phenomena of seediness radical thinking in understanding the religion (Islam) in a society. The main issues covered are: why there is radicalization of religious understanding? What is the contribution of Islamic Education in conducting the de-radicalization of religious understanding? To answer these problems, the supporting data were collected from many views of thinkers in Islamic education in the forms of various written sources. The results of the study showed that the growth of radicalism in understanding the religion was caused by the exclusive - particularistic religious learning which tend to treat religion in a rigid and narrow manner. Thus, Islamic Education should be able to change the rigid and narrow views to be accommodative, tolerant and inclusive. The application of learning style - rational religious imperatives need to be developed so that Islam is not only considered as dogmatic teaching, but it is more functional for all human beings.
