Abstract

This disertationdiscusses a strategy on the struggle of tarekat follower that have been judged and labeled as ‘ghoiru mu’tabarah’ by Tarakat Mu’tabarak Federation of NU and the judgment has theatened the existence of this tarekat. The interesting thinghere is that through a movement with particular strategy and technique it has eventually survived until recently. Based on this fact, main problems discussed here are: first, how did tarekat actors commit the process to obtain and make use of political chances? Second, how did they build mobilizing structures in order to provide mediia and means of the movement? Third, how were framing processes done to get vitality, courage and sustainability of the movement?. To answer those problems, this study used qualitative approach, with a descriptive-explanatory study case stategy. The case observed was singular-embedded case in a form of tarekat’s survival. Analysis model employed here wasmultilevel analysis adjusted with category of problem formulation. Grounded research was used to emphasize induction pattern and natural setting in data collection. Data was gathered through observation, in-depth interview, and documentation by including mechanism of grounded theory wherein the analysis was through identification, conceptualization, categorization and ultimately theorization. Framework of data analysis technique used reflective thinking. The study finding were as follws, first, Shiddiqiyyah actors fought to defend tarekat by undergoing proccesses (1) entering area of primary political chance structures to step on political superstructure by synergizing tarekat’s ideology with national political ideology, Pancasila and (2) entering secondary political chance structures in order to be able to join political infrastructure by involving them to certain group or political party, that of course had concerns on nationality, that is, GOLKAR. With this, Shiddiqiyyah gained political patronage and could get rid of the treat from the ruling regine ambivalent to social-politics-religion groups. Shiddiqiyyah, also with this tactic, took a position as nationalist tarekat. Second, Shiddiqiyyah actors built up mobilizing structures with steps as follows, 1, building up tarekat’s identity by perfecting doctrine and infrastructure of the tarekat; 2, developing tarekat institutionuntil finally Shiddiqiyyah main organization (ORSHID) emerged as a vehicle of the movement. This organization was developed with a pattern of structural-functional differentiation, that is, a pattern of organizational evolution starting from small fucntional institutions, moving synergically and simultaneously to become a big solid organizational contruction. Third, Shiddiqiyyah actors framed tarekat movement dynamically with following processes 1) interpreting nation’s ideology, Pancasila, as an Islamic national political ideology that then became the tarekat ideology. The consequence was that Islam was synergized politically-ideologically with Pancasila. Based on that, Shiddiqiyyah came up as nation’s tarekat; 2) developing movement framesdynamically as an implementation from Shiddiqiyyah national perspective, for example, in a form of love nation movement, loyal to the nation movement, humanity movement, self efficacy movement, and so on. With such a movement framing vision and mission of tarekat movement became definitive, that is, “The Unification between Faith and Humanity” with “Growing Noble Heart and Eradicating Evil Heart”. Tarekat Shiddiqiyyah movement posed survival strategy in a form of ‘taqiyyah’ with battle crag pattern, meaning hiding self identity from political-social context. However, Shiddiqiyyah did taqiyyah by socializing self identity in order to adapt andassimilate with national ideology as an initial chance (asl al-infitah) to gain politicalpatronage. Based on that, in Islamic movement perspective, tarekat Shiddiqiyyah movement has contributed a theory of political-social movement with a pattern of ‘adptionist-assimilationist’. The practical contribution of this movement is that, in civic education because of high concern owned by Shiddiqiyyah in preparing Moslem individuals with high national consciousness, the individuals are hoped to love their country an nation.
