Abstract

South Korea become a major tourist destination in Asia including tourists from Indonesia. This happens due to the rise of a Hallyu Wave or Korean Wave that swept the world. Many Indonesian tourists who have difficulty learning Korean language. The existing of Korean-conversation application not location-based yet. Currently smart phones already popular in use, smart phones have features that can be used to assist users in finding the nearest location, such as GPS and mobile browsers already support geolocation. Two of these features allow a system to determine the coordinates of smart phone users automatically via mobile web. The subject of research is the development of mobile-web application locationsbased korean language conversation using Foursquare API. Methods of data collection are literature study and interviews. Analyses were conducted to determine the specifications of Korean language conversation system to fit the needs. Implementation of systems using Ruby in Rails framework, Foursquare API, HTML5, and JavaScript. The resulting system was tested by two methods, Black Box Test and Alpha Test. Results from this study is a mobile web application locations-based Korean conversation using Foursquare API, GPS and geolocation to detect coordinates of smart phone users. This application helps the user to know Korean conversation and vocabulary based on location as well as to listen to the pronunciation. The test results indicate that the system is feasible and can be used. Keywords: Korean, Foursquare API, geolocation, GPS, mobile web.
