Abstract

The process of comunication in society is different from one to another. The process one is highly influenced by value, belief, and language. This is in line with what Edward T. Hall has said, he said that between culture and communication can be visualized as two side of coins which is can’t be separated. There will not be culture without any communication and so versa. Therefore, between communication and culture are connected by one to another, they can’t be separated. In a culture, there is a system and dinamics that controle the way of axchanging symbols in communication, by that communication the exchange can be done. Thai students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta can’t be able to understand the interaction that involves the intercultural communication. This case can be happened because they are foreigners, so that there’re some uncertainties which cover them to have good interaction with the indonesian students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The differences among them such as cultural intercourse, personality, and environment situation make the Thai Students feel that uncertainty which can influence their learning activity at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. With those differences, this research is intended to know and explain the efforts of Thai Students in descreasing the uncertainty of intercultural communication with Indonesian Students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. How do they strive to be passive, active, and interractive in a proccess of decreasing the uncertainty that comes up in themselves. So that, that can follow the lecturing activities well without any big trouble.
