Abstract

This study aimed to examine how the action bibliocrime at UGM Library. This study was a descriptive qualitative research. The method of collecting data used observation, interviews and documentation. The analysis of the data in this study used a two-stage ananalisis , before and after the research which included: (1) data collection, (2) data reduction, (3) presentation of data, and (4) drawing conclusions. These results indicated that first of all librarians at the Library of UGM knew the basic concepts of bibliocrime. Secondly, they knew the action of bibliocrime which was happened at the Library UGM, namely; (1) Theft of books which was taken by slipping into a laptop bag, folder, and jackets. (2) Mutilation books, done by tearing most of the contents of the book, ripping the entire book either with bare hands or using sharp weapons, and damaged the cover of the book. (3) Vandalism books, done by making small notes on a blank page, marking the words, underlining the important word / phrase and the most frequent acts of that vandalism was folded the book pages. (4) Unauthorized borrowing, including breaking the time limit borrowing, borrowing by using a library card belonging to another person, utilizing a collection exclusively by saving on other shelves that are not found by another visitor, take the book tacitly by removing labels barcode. Third, the losses suffered as a result of bibliocrime action at UGM Library such as financial losses and social losses in the form of an advanced image UGM Library worse. Based on the results of this study was provided advice both theoretically and practically. Theoretically was needed the same study with a different focus in the future. Practically expected boost library of electronic security systems, making the service reservoir and library needed to maximize the function of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV).
