Abstract

This research entitle “Bibliocaust In ‘The Book Thief’ (An Analysis On Alan Swingewood’s Sociology Of Literature)” is aim to looking for how’s bibliocaust in ‘The Book Thief’ film, caused of bibliocaust, and the consequence itself. This research is qualitative. Research’s approach was used Alan Swingewood’s Sociology of Literature that have three perspective, they are (1) adopts the documentary aspect of literature, arguing that is provides a mirror to the age; (2) this perspective is focus on the social situation of the writer; (3) attempts to trace the ways in which a work of literature is actually received by a particular society at a specific historical moment. The third perspective was took for this research. Collecting data method by watching, making notes, documented, and bibliography. Sources of data was primary and secondary data source, consist of ‘The Book Thief’ movie, and referens, documents, notes, webs, and articles. Analysis data methods were made notes about bibliocaust. There are some aspect which consist in bibliocaust analizing, they are social, culture, and politic. The conclusions of this research are (1) bibliocaust was caused by press policies where applied by Adolf Hitler’s regime to banned every literatures were judged as ‘dangerous’ problem (2) Bibliocaust was held on the same date of Hitler’s birthday. The ceremony was lead by Major Bürgermeister Hermann where it has aim to destroyed every books who wrote by Jews, communist, and non- Germany’s authors (3) The biggest result made by bibliocaust was holocaust (a pogrom towards Jews) (4) Some conflicts behind bibliocaust were religion and ideology conflicts. Then, suggestion of this research are (1) ‘The Book Thief’ film that described about bibliocaust is important to learn to get informations about one of vandalism towards book; (2) Nowadays, film can be used as a learning media for learn historical moments whics is visualized on it.
