Abstract

This article is a critical analysis of ]alaluddin. Rahmat's view on the reliability of the Hadis of the infidelity of Abu Talib. ]alai, it is the nickname of ]alaluddin Rahmat, uses a historical critic to question the soundness of such hadis in al-Bukhari and Muslim's works, while both are extensively recognized as the soundest had is works. The criticized hadis transmitted by Abu Hurairah informs that Abu Thalib died in infidelity against Islam. ]alai shows the unauthenticated transmission of this hadis as there were some political manipulations along the process of transmission. On the contrary, the writer found that]alal's critics are unproven. ]alal missed some strengthening evidence upon this hadis, and let some persons in the dlllin of transmission unnoticed, such as 'Alxlullah ibn Umayyah, Ibn 'Abbas, and 'Ali. He also did not pay sufficient attention to the historiall data of Q.S. al-Tawlxzh and al-Qasas. These stand as the weak points of ]alai's a~ment.
