Abstract
This article discusses the history and the basic assumption of scientific exegesis of the Qur'an leading to its polemics and their way out. Among the polemics is that this is aimed at showing to the world that the Qur' an is in line with scientific development. This is one of the miracles of the Qur'an. However, this assumption has triggered some Islamists to be apologists and arbiters, and to impose a single interpretation of the Qur'an. It is plausible and acceptable to use certain scientific theories to describe certain Qur'anic verses provided that there is indication of that. However, it should be noticed that it is not the only meaning of the Qur'an. Such interpreters should keep distance from truth claiming of their interpretation. Kata Kunci: Tafsir Ilmi, al-I'jaz al-'Ilmi, Ilmu Pengetahuan, Sains.
