Abstract
Prophets have got special places in Islam as they are the messengers of God to aU human being. It is commonly believed that the Qur'an states 25 of them All of them are males. However, some Qur'anic verses indicate that there are a number of female prophets. For example, Q.S. Hud ( 11): 71,73 describes Sarah, the wife oflbrahim; Q.S. Al,Q~~ (28) : 7 portrays Moses's mother; Q.S. Ali 'Imran (3): 42,43 and 45 narrates Maryam, Isa's mother. However, there is still a big debate among mufassir (Qur'anic exegetes) regarding the interpretation of those verses in terms of females prophets.
