Abstract

The function of prophetic religion in essence is the first and foremost role of islam as a religion. Prophet Muhammad struggle not only as a propagator toward faith for Allah, but also as a liberator for the people from violence and injustice. During the war for independence in Indonesia, Islam also took the part as prophetic religion, which consisted as a foundation for spiritual guidance, and also the base for mass mobilization toward charge and independence against the pressor. A critique made for how islam has evaluated in Indonesia now is the tendency to reduce the role of Islam close to status quo, and formalist syariah, resulting myriad of problems, such as injustice and dehumanization. This academic writing attempts to investigate the role of Islam as a prophetic religion in Indonesia. In order to achieve the ideal Indonesian society, society that has the notion of tolerance , openness, egalitarian and democratic. Through a social and cultural transformation as a way of realizing a process towards a civilized Islamic society.
