Abstract

This study aims to find and describe librarian‟s professional ethics in the practice of service in the library of "Sunan Kalijaga" State Islamic University Yogyakarta. The study‟s focus is the implementation of librarian‟s ethical code in the practice of service in circulation, reference and reading room in the library of "Sunan Kalijaga" State Islamic University Yogyakarta. The study uses the descriptive qualitative research method. The data collecting methods in this study are interview, observation and documentation. The interviewees in this study are six librarians of "Sunan Kalijaga" State Islamic University and three library users. The data analysis in this study uses two stages of analyzes, namely data analysis before the implementation and data analysis after the implementation which consist of (1) data collecting, (2) data reduction, (3) presentation of data and (4) concluding. The result of the study can be concluded that the use of librarian‟s ethical code in the practice of service in circulation, reference and reading room in the library of "Sunan Kalijaga" State Islamic University has been done in line with the institution rule, but sometimes there is attitude which is not appropriate with the librarian‟s ethical code. By the result it can be seen that it needs further study related to the librarian‟s ethical code, so the ethical code becomes the first reference in the policy making in the library of "Sunan Kalijaga" State Islamic University Yogyakarta.
