Abstract

The objective of this research was to know (1) the life of Sultan Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar, (2) roles of Sultan Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar in the development of Indian literature in the Mughal Empire and (3) the literature development impacts the world of science in the Mughal empire. This research is more focused on the role played by Sultan Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar. This research was conducted by the method of historical research with the type research was the study of literature and as well as qualitative research. The approach used was a sociological approach, the concept of social role. The collecting data techniques used was documentation. The analysis of data was done in this research was Historical analysis technique that consists of four stages, namely: heuristic, verification, interpretation, and historiography. Based on this research, it was able to be elaborated that: (1) Sultan Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar was a descendant of two great rulers of Central Asia and beyond, that Tamerlane (Ethnic Turk) and Chengis Khan (Mongol), which were known to both the ruling tolerant religion. Therefore, the position of Sultan Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar was marking the union of two great family spirit of the Central Asia. (2) The role of Sultan Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar in the development of Indian literature in the Mughal sultanate can be known by his policies. The policies are: translating Indian literature into Persian, promoting literature writing, and protecting the development of regional literature. The most prominent development of Indian literature during the time of Sultan Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar is the development of Persian literature, the field of historical writing, and local languages, mainly Sanskrit and Hindi. (3) The existence of literature development conducted by Sultan Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar, both directly and indirectly impacts the world of science in the Mughal empire. These impacts are: (a) high book production (b) developing science; (c) advanced education; (d) advanced libraries; (e) the appearance of the poet; (f) the appearance of translators and historians; (g) illustrated book develops.
