Abstract

The phenomenon of information hoax in social media becomes an interesting and important issue to investigate, because haox information has a negative impact on national integrity and ideology of Indonesian nation. Daily Newspaper Kompas, is one of the national print media that preach the phenomenon. This study aims to describe how SKH Kompas frame in reporting hoax information in social media on December 24, 2016 edition until 09 January 2017. This research was qualitative descriptive research and used framing analysis model of Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki as analysis method. The framing model stated that the framing device consists of four structures, namely syntax, script, thematic, and rhetorical. The results of this study have shown, that SKH Kompas has helped to increase support and invited the audience to take side with government policy. SKH Kompas has also emphasized in its news that online media is the only media that became the emergence of hoax news. However, other media besides online media are never mentioned at all. In addition, national issues such as radicalism, intolerance and national divide are also presented in framing coverage of SKH Kompas, while other issues such as health, food or technology seem to be hidden by SKH Kompas Keywords: Framing Analysis, News, Hoax
