Abstract

The phenomenon of veiled women is a growing condition in Indonesia, it can happen because of the background of Indonesia as a country with a Muslim majority population. Islamic nuances in Indonesia one of them marked by the number of veiled Muslim women who currently enter in various social spaces, including within the environment Education Institute. Islamic Higher Education with religious content and value therein becomes a place and separate space for Muslim students with its diversity, including for those who wear a veil. Student life in communicating to build relationships with people experiencing various dynamics. This research uses descriptive qualitative method, sample technique used is snowball sampling and the theory used is social penetration theory. The results obtained in this study are still many communication barriers experienced by students veiled in UIN Sunan Kalijaga. Communication barriers are experienced in the family environment, academic environment and public environment. Student veiled be selective in communicating with the opposite sex and more closing themselves from the social environment. The existence of a number of different existence among fellow veils users in communicating compared with not veiled women. Keywords : Student, Veil, Interpersonal Communication, Relationship
