Abstract

This study aims to describe the basic concepts of optical science and the theory of Vision according to Ibn Al-Haitham. As for the background of this research is the absence of Indonesian literacy that specifically discusses the theory of optics Al-Haitsam. In addition, Al-Haitsam's optical materials are not part of the material taught in schools at all levels. Consequently knowledge of Al-Haitsam's optical theory is still little known by the wider community. This research method is literature study. Researchers use credible sources of literacy that discusses Al-Haitsam's optical theory. In maintaining the validity of the data taken, the researchers not only take one data from one source but compared with other sources of libraries. As for some sources that researchers use is a direct translation of Al-Manadhir in English to a variety of books and other international journals that discuss the theory of optics Al-Haitsam. Al-Haitsam describes particular visible properties as a basic concept of optical science. Some of them are about light as an entity emerging from a shining object and the concept of color as a physical entity encompassing an opaque object. In Al-Haitsam's Theory of Vision states that every object's surface reflects light in all directions. The exact reflection of light perpendicular to the point of glacial humor surface will be continued and gives rise to a visual sensation of the object. This idea is the basis of the development of visual theory and the discipline of modern optics.
