Abstract

The a 5% market share of syariah banking has been targeted since the blue print of sharia banking development was released in 2002. Even though its growth is quite good and able to survive in the face of crisis, sharia banking has been able to attain the 5% of market share within 14 years—it is relatively slow growth for the world’s largest Muslim country. This research was intended to find out the factors that influence sharia banking market share in Indonesia externally and internally. The independent variables used to measure the growth of each market share were Deposit Interest rate (SDB), Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Inflation, Number of Sharia Bank Offices, and Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR). The data were obtained from Sharia Commercial Bank (BUS) and Sharia Business Unit (UUS) in Indonesia and processed by using double regression analysis method. From the results, it can be said that the inflation and gross domestic product (GDP) had no significant effects on the sharia banking market share. On the other side, deposit interest rate had significant negative effect on the market share of sharia banking while the number of sharia bank offices and capital adequacy ratio (CAR) were vice versa.
