Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine correlation between the intensity of the use of social media with reading interest among students of UIN Sunan Kalijaga. The hypothesis of this research is that there is a negative correlation between the intensity of the use of social media and the interest of reading books among UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta students. The respondents of this research is 300 students of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. Data collection method uses purposive sampling technique. The data collection tool is the intensity scale of social media usage and the reading interest scale made by the researcher, the data analysis technique used in this research is the product moment from pearson and done by using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciense) program. Pearson correlation results show the value of r = 0,025 and p = 0.662 (p 0.05) which means there is no relationship between the intensity of social media and reading interest in UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta students.
