Abstract

The lack of science learning by applying the scientific work shows that the critical thinking skills and the scientific process skills of student have not been trained optimally. In reality the method of learning in science is oriented to the teacher (teacher centered) so the student have not received some experience that is challenging and meaningful for student. According to the survey of PISA and TIMSS the achievement of the student of Indonesia in science is low, one of the factors is the learning process that centered to the teacher. The learning process is to memorize but minimum application and problem solving. This research is to identify students' critical thinking skills through outdoor study method based on a scientific approach. To identify how the skills of teachers and students science processes through outdoor study methods based on a scientific approach, and to analyze students' critical thinking skills through an outdoor study method based on a scientific approach at SDIT Salsabila 3 Banguntapan Yogyakarta. The type of this research is mixed methode research, with the sequential exploratory design. Mixed method is a combination research methode that combines qualitative and quantitative research method in sequence. The first stage, a researcher uses qualitative methods and the second is quantitative method. The interview, observation, documentation and test are technique to collect data. Furthermore for the quantitative uses the experimental with posttest only control design, design using independent sample t-test test. The results of this study indicate that the critical thinking skills achieved by students as a whole are in the medium category, because the learning method used is based on assignment, question and answer and discussion. The most dominant teacher science process skill is managing the study object (95%), while the weakest skill in monitor skill (68,80%), and students science process skill shows majority of students (75,55%) have high category. Based on the result of the analysis of students' critical thinking ability, the significant t-test value is 0,00 (0,00 0,05), the average value of group A (control class) 69,16 and the average grade of B (experimental class ) 86.66. There is a significant difference between the students' critical thinking ability by using outdoor study method based on scientific approach in group A and group B.
