Abstract

There are two academic problems in this research, namely on what is the model of development on human rights-based education in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah and what is the result if this development. At least there are three main reasons why this research is conducted. Firstly, the emergence of several misdeeds in education context nowadays such as violence, bullying, and discrimination done by students and, even, some teachers. It happens because the lack of respecting, protecting and fufilling basic needs of everyone in particular students as unique and perfect person. Basically this is in line with human rights principles so-called PANEL namely participation, accountability, non-discrimination, empowerment and linkage to the human rights principles. Secondly, to make MI as human rights-friendly school it is necessarily needed for principal and teachers to shift paradigm. Besides, they have to jot down the paradigm into detailed policy, program and human resources. Thirdly, to reach out the human rights-friendly madrasah, they have to be equipped by general guideline on human right based policy making for the principal and human rights-based learning for teacher. To cope with the research problem afore-mentioned this study employs research and development (R&D). The model used in this research is what Borg and Gall offered through ten steps, namely research and information, planning, develop preliminary form of product, preliminary field testing, main product revision, main field testing, operational product revision, operational field testing, final product revision, dissemination and implementation. This research was conducted in MIN 2 Sleman such as problem identification, product development untill implementation. To enhance human rights-based product researcher invites many experts to engage such as experts on contents, human rights education, standard language, media, and educational practitioners for instance madrasah principal and teachers. This research resulted in two guidelines on human rights based education namely Guideline on Human Rights-Based Policy Making in MI for Principal and Guideline on Human Rights-Based Learning Process for Teachers. The first guideline is oriented to produce human rights-based policy making, the second one is led to design human rights-based learning process in the classroom whatever the subjects are. Stakeholder responses to the guideline are very appreciative either MI principals, teachers or students. The both guidelines are disseminated through limited focus group discussion (FGD) in MIN 2 Sleman and wider dissemination seminar in Faculty of Tarbiyah and Education involving about 100 MI principals across Yogyakarta in collaboration with Association of MI Principals. Through this research it is hoped that it will make madrasah as a great and prestigious school.
