Abstract

One of the most widely developed nanomaterials was CNF. CNF has electrical conductivity properties, thermal conductivity properties and good mechanical properties that can be applied to many things such as sensors, supercapasitors, and other electronic devices This research used coconut shell material because the composition of coconut shell is included in hydrocarbon compound and coconut plants spread in Indonesia about 3,654 million hectare and the third largest plantation after oil palm and rubber The aim of this research were CNF synthesized from coconut shell by CVD and studied about characterization by XRD and SEM. CNF was succesfully synthesized by CVD method using activated carbon product from coconut shell and acetylene (C2H2) as the carbon source, nickel chloride (NiCl2) as the catalyst and nitrogen (N2) as the inert gas. With varying CVD temperature from 500oC, 600oC and 700oC. XRD analysis results from CNF, show that stronger intensity CNFs of (002) and (101) planes at peak positioned 2θ of 26 and 44, the CNF has a hexagonal morphology adopted by nickel. The CNF produced at 500oC was mainly straight and helical fibers with a fiber diameter about 300 nm, at 600oC the products mostly straight fibers with a more uniform fiber diameter about 147 nm, at 700oC the products were more complex than other with a fiber diameter about 47 nm. Based on temperature variations, at 700oC most the smallest crystal diameter, so the higher temperature, the fiber diameter is smaller
