Abstract

This study aims to determine the action of bibliocrime in National Treasure: Book of Secrets movie. This research was a qualitative research by using semiotic approach. Data collection techniques used was an observation by watching movie carefully and repeatedly then take a screenshot of the scene. Data analysis technique used was Pierce semiotics analysis which was triangle theory. This study obtained the results that the action of bibliocrime divided into several kinds, they are: 1) Thief (theft) was done by put the literature into the jacket. In addition steal information can also be done using technology in the form of mobile phone camera by taking pictures; 2) Mutilation (tearing) was done by tearing some books by hand; 3) Vandalism (doodling) was done by adding graffiti lines and circles on the writing of the book; 4) An-authorized borrowing occured because it got a special way to retrieve information. The way used was through personal closeness with people who have a secret code to open the storage of information; 5) Burning was done by throwing a sheet of paper into the fire. In addition, other ways were done by burning paper sheets using matches. In this study, combustion is a new type of bibliocrime action and does not exist in previous theories. Later on the researcher expect there will be other studies on bibliocrime as well as other types of action. In addition, to minimize the bibliocrime action, it is better that all parties who understand about it provide knowledge/ information to others.
