Abstract
The purposes of the research were to obtain several descriptions of the parents’ expectations in enrolling their children in Islamic boarding school in early ages and to find out some factors that affected the parents’ expectations. This research was carried out in the principle of qualitative research and descriptive case study. The data were collected from observations, interviews and documentations. The informants of the research were two parents who enrolled their first child in Islamic boarding school in early age. The result of the research showed that the expectation of the parents was their children to be deeply religious. Then, the purpose of the parents in enrolling their children in Islamic boarding school was to make their children to memorize the Quran so that they could survive in the afterlife. To realize their goal they have a strategy or plan that is to enrolling children in Islamic boarding schools since elementary school, in this study a wife has a dominant motivation compared to her husband so that planning can be implemented and the husband has a supporting role. These high expectations made the parents solve their problems easier and find out other alternatives when they faced obstacles and stressor. Meanwhile, some factors which affected the parents’ expectations who enrolling their children in Islamic boarding school were social supports, couples support, religious beliefs and experiences.
