Abstract

The study aims to understand religious coping in patients recovering from bipolar disorder. The informant in this research is ex-bipolar patient. Purposive sampling was used to recruit the informant in this study. The type of research is using a qualitative method with phenomenological design. The instrument for collecting data is observation and interview. The results of the study illustrate that the informants used four aspects of positive religious coping: benevolent religious reappraisal, it’s shown from the informant’s behaviour who never seek anger or reject the conditions. Collaborative religious coping, shown by the feeling of being accompanied by God when facing difficulties in life. Spiritual connection, shown by believing that the bipolar that she experienced was determined by God. Seeking support from clergy or members, when the informant seeks spiritual support from the cleric. While the factors that influence the informant's religious coping consist of internal factors, that is trust. External factors were found from parental and environmental support.
