Abstract

Arabic vocabulary is often used by the factions of the Islamic community organizations to speak a word in its communication as well on Jamā’ah Tablīg. The Arabic vocabularies that was inserted in their conversation are called mixing code. In this study, the researcher raised the title "Mixing Code and Meaning Alteration of the use of the Arabic vocabulary among Jamaah Tabligh in Yogyakarta" because of the vocabulary used by Jamā’ah Tablīg are unfamiliar enough to be heard by the general public, making it difficult to be understood of the meaning. Arabic vocabulary is mixed into their conversation code apparently found some vocabularies have changed the meaning from the original meaning of the Arabic language so that the cause of the difficulty is understood by the lay community toward Jamā’ah Tablīg. This research uses the field research by using a descriptive qualitative research approach. This study aims to describe the form of mixing code in the landscape of words, and phrases, as well as to describe Arabic vocabulary that changes the meaning. Jamā’ah Tablīg in Yogyakarta was chosen as the subject of this study with the object of research in the form of the Arabic vocabulary because of the plural society of the city. This study uses data from spoken informants. The data in this study were collected through the simak techniques, record techniques, interview techniques, and documentation. The results of this research show that there are eighty (80) of the Arabic vocabulary used members of the Jamā’ah Tablīg to mixed code in their communication. On the basis of eighty (80) of the Arabic vocabulary found twenty (20) of the Arabic vocabulary that was experiencing a change of meaning, namely; 1). Addition of meaning, found two (2) vocabularies. 2) Narrowing the meaning of eight (8) vocabularies. 3.) The replacement of the meaning of the seven (7) vocabulary
