Abstract

Each individual student has different characteristics. Teachers as educators are expected to understand and be able to understand the different forms students have. Some of these individual differences include differences in intelligence, gender, learning styles and personality differences. This study focuses on discussing personality differences. Personality differences in question are behavioral patterns and ways of thinking which explain the existence of a person's unique characteristics in determining adaptation to the environment. The type of research used is qualitative phenomenography. Phenomenography is an empirical study with a focus on distinguishing the ways in which each participant perceives, understands, experiences, and interpret various phenomena that are around him. The research subjects and sources of information in the research that will be conducted are teachers and sixth grade students of MI Ma'arif Nurul Haromain Kulon Progo and several administrators in the Nurul Haromain boarding school. The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling and snowball sampling. Methods of data collection using conservation, interviews, documentation and triangulation. Data analysis in this study uses data analysis model Miles and Huberman namely data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. This study aims to analyze personality differences and reveal why a student can become popular or isolated and how students respond to these personality differences. Sociometric questionnaires are used to find out who students are popular and who are students who are excluded. Sociometric questionnaires are also used to identify "clicks" in a group. Based on the results of the sociometry questionnaire, students who are popular are students who lack academic achievement and are not included in the class. The results showed that: first, popular students tended to have high personalities in extraversion and friendliness. While less popular students tend to have high personalities in Emotional stability, friendliness, caution and openness. Second, popular students have high scores in extraversion and friendliness trait. Popular students tend to be easier to socialize and be accepted in their group communities. Popular students tend to be low in the trait of openness, Emotional stability, discipline and less prominent in academic achievement. Third, students who are less popular in their groups are students who have high traits in terms of introverts and discipline. Introverted individuals tend to be quiet, aloof, socially passive and always behind the scenes. An introverted personal advantage is giving the impression that the student is a good child, does not like to look for problems, and adheres to the applicable rules.
