Abstract

The research on design of detection device for the existence of people has the background of the rampant cases of theft of property. This research aims to characterize SRF08 ultrasonic sensor, to make and to test detection device for the existence of people using SRF08 ultrasonic sensor, arduino uno microcontroller and short message service (SMS). This research was conducted in six phases : sensor characterization, sensor angle testing, software manufacturing, hardware manufacturing, tool testing and data processing. The results showed that SRF08 ultrasonic sensor used in this research has characteristics of transfer function tIN = 31,333 + 58,198S with r = 1, sensitivity of 58,198 μs/cm and repeatability of 99.62%. In addition, the SRF08 ultrasonic sensor can detect people with a maximum side range of 60 cm at an altitude of 280 cm, 90 cm at an altitude of 250 cm and 220 cm. Meanwhile, the detection system's success rate is 100%, but has a delay of 16.10 seconds.
