Abstract

This study was aimed to knowing the differences on psychological wellbeing of prisoners in Yogyakarta class II A penitentiary based on prisoner demographic factors. Demographic factor that used as independent variable in this study is punishment period, level of education, age, and prisoner criminal act. The subject in this study were 40 prisoner. The measuring instrument used in this study is a psychological well-being scale with dimensions of self-acceptance, positive relationships with others, autonomy, environmental mastery, life goals, personal growth compiled by Maisaroh (2014). The technique used for collecting data in this study is incidental sampling technique. The methode used for analyzing data is one way anova for criminal period and level of education variable. Whereas on age and prisoner criminal act variable analyzed using independent sample t test. The results of the analysis in this study indicate that there were no significant differences in psychological well-being on prisoners with <1 year, 1 - 2 years, and <2 years criminal period. There were also no significant differences in psychological well-being for prissoners graduating from elementary, junior high, high school, and undergraduate levels. The results of the analysis in this study indicate that there are significant differences in psychological well-being in prisoners aged 18-40 years and inmates aged 40-60 years, where prisoners aged 18-40 years have a higher score of psychological well-being. While the results of the analysis on the variable criminal act shows that there are significant differences in the psychological well-being of special and general criminal prisoners, where general criminal prisoners have a higher psychological well-being score than special criminal prisoners.
