Abstract

MISTIK KETAKTERIDNGGAAN (MYSTICISM OF INFINITY) DAN MISTIK PERSONALITI (MYSTICISM OF PERSONALITY) SERTA SEMANGAT KENABIAN (PROPHETIC SPIRIT) Mysticism contains something mysterious, not to be reached by ordinary means or by intellectual effort, is understood from the root common to the words mystic and mystery, the Greek myein, "to close the eyes". Mysticism has been called "the great spiritual current which goes through all religions". In its widest sense it may be defined as the consciousness of the One Reality - be it called Wisdom, Light, Love, or Nothing. It is advisable to distinguish between two main types, which have been classified as Mysticism of Infinity and Mysticism of Personality. In the whole rage of Suti literature and mysticism it will be probably difficult to find words which, in a single sentence, disclose such an acute perception of the psychological difference between the prophetic and the mystic types of consciousness. The mystic does not wish to return from the repose of "unitary experience", and even when he does return, as. he must, his return does not mean much for mankind at large.
