Abstract

This study aims to determine the concept of libraries, Librarian Attitudes, and Book Vandalism in “The Public” movie. This research is a library research that uses data sources in the form of scenes in the “The Public” movie. This research use desciptive qualitative approach. Data collection is done by watching the movie, observing, recording, and analyzing images and dialogues from subtitle. Then to process the data used the semiotics method. The results of this study found that the concept of the library in the movie is divided into three parts. First concept: building concept. The movie depicts a library building with a modern and functional interior design with library equipment such as library material shelves, reading tables, reading chairs, computers, billboards, and book trolleys. The second concept: service concept: The library in the film movie implements an open service that is described by users who can access library collections directly on the collection shelves. The third concept: the concept of libraries as public spaces: in films depicted the library acts as a haven for homeless people. The library emerged as a solution by offering a comfortable haven. The attitude of the librarians depicted in the movie is divided into three: First, the attitude of the librarian towards the librarians namely flexible in serving, serving to the end, not forcing the will, serving with a cheerful face, and saying “thank you”. Second: the librarian's attitude towards himself, that is, a librarian who is fair-looking, honest, modestly dressed, appears calm, smiles, and has good words. Third: the attitude of librarians as agents of change, namely librarians who have high human values by helping provide a place and food for homeless people who are in need and able to inspire the surrounding community to help. Book Vandalism that occurs in the movie is an act of library material vandalism in the form of a graffiti on one page of the book. In the graffiti reads "All lies in this book".
