Abstract

This study is the phenomenology study which concerns on social practice of PerpuSeru and the knowledge construction of library in Bunder village, Pamekasan .The objects of the study are to find out the implementation program of PerpuSeru, to analyze the contribution of PerpuSeru within the knowledge construction of society in Bunder Village towards the library, and to figure out the meaning of PerpuSeru by using a theory of social practice uttered by Pierre Bourdieu and theory of knowlege construction by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann. The type of this study is qualitative which use phenomenology approach. The researcher chooses the informants using purposive and snowball technique. Data collection techniques are conducted by observations, interviews and documentations. In addition, data analyses are conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion. Moreover, data validations are conducted by doing triangulation of source, technique, and time. The results of this study show that: (1) Program implementations of PerpuSeru in Melati library of Bunder village are affected by all of the actors who involve in it. The actors try to accumulate some capital such as social capital, symbolic capital, economic capital, and culture capital in which those are considered as the main things in order to create literate people through PerpuSeru practice program. (2) The emerging of PerpuSeru gives huge contribution to the knowledge constructions of society in Bunder village regarding the library, hence the library change its perspective according to the society. The local through externalization, objectivation, and internalization build the knowledge constructions of library dialectically and simultaneously. According to the results of knowledge constructions show that a library is no longer considered as books collection, a place in order to read or borrow some books, but more likely it becomes an information center which provides various knowledge to society, hence it becomes a perfect solution for the local in order to solve their daily activities. (3) PerpuSeru is considered as positive things by the society. As for the librarian, PerpuSeru means a hope to create advanced society which progress further to become better. Meanwhile for the society, they considered it as one of the solutions in order to solve the problem in society, as they are highly motivated to use library in order to achieve their success.
