Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Mozart's classical music on emotional stability in psychology students at Sunan Kalijaga UIN Yogyakarta. Participants in this study were 16 Psychology students at Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University of Yogyakarta aged 17-21 years, which were divided into two groups: 9 participants in the experimental group and 7 participants in the control group. The design used in this study is pre-post control group design. Data collection in this study uses an emotional stability scale compiled by researchers based on aspects of emotional stability according to Schneiders (1964). The method of data analysis used the Mann Whitney-U technique to test differences in data scores pretest, posttest, and follow-up in the experimental group and the control group. The results of the gain score analysis pretest-posttest showed value of Mann Whitney-U = 7,000 with p=0.009 (p <0.05) and gain score posttest of Mann Whitney-U = 14,500 with p=0.069 (p> 0.05), this indicates that there are significant difference between the value of pretest-posttest in the experimental group and the control group after being given treatmen, while for the posttest-followup values showed that there were no significant differences between the experimental group and the control group. However, the research results show that Mozart's classical music influences the emotional stability of psychology students at Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University in Yogyakarta.
