Abstract

Nowadays, the grow on technology aspect makes some changing in human lifestyle. One of the most change happen these day is on the android base smartphone user. Smartphone that is easy to carry anywhere and anytime now no longer knows the age and circles. The use of smartphones is a very important necessity for today's life that requires high mobility. With various facilities and features in it, smartphones are no longer limited to communication technology, but become a device that is capable as a computer that is able to access all needs, ranging from telecommunications, information and education. The rise of smartphone use has an influence on the intensity of interpersonal communication of its users. This study aimed to determine the effect of smartphone uses on the intensity of interpersonal communication. This study involves one independent variable, namely the use of a smartphone (X) and one dependent variable, namely the intensity of interpersonal communication (Y). This study was an quantitative study with a correlation method with data collection techniques using a questionnaire. The sample used was 68 students of Al-Munawwir Islamic Boarding School Komplek R2 Krapyak Yogyakarta from 211 populations. Sampling used Simple Random Sampling technique. Analysis technique used Simple Regression Analysis. The results showed that the use of smartphones had a positive and significant effect on the intensity of students' interpersonal communication by 44.90% and a strong correlation of 0.670.
