Abstract

Child Inmates often feel they are trash people and have a gloomy future. Therefore, there is a need for special guidance in character building at Child Prison Class II Yogyakarta so that Child Inmates becomes a good and responsible citizen. This study aims to describe: 1) the application of character building management for Child Inmates in Child Prison, 2) the problem of applying character building management to Child Inmates, 3) Child Prison efforts to overcome the management problems of character development in Child Inmates. This study uses a qualitative approach method with research subjects Head of Child Prison, Coaching Head of School and Bimkemas, Head of Sub- Department of Administration, Supervisor Team Commander, and Child Inmates Child Prison Class II Yogyakarta. Data is collected through interviews, observations, and documentation that is complemented by a list of questions. All data collected was analyzed using interpretations preceded by triangulation data sources and technique of data collection to determine the validity of the data. The results of the study show that: 1) the application of character building management to Child Inmates in Child Prison Class II Yogyakarta can be seen from the implementation of management functions ranging from planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling. 2) the problem of the implementation of character building management in Child Inmates is Child Inmates's passion discrepancy towards the guidance carried out, lack of human resources in carrying out coaching, limited facilities and infrastructure, and too many activities that must be reported so that reporting activities back from the specified time. 3) the effort to overcome the problem of the application of character building management at Child Inmates in Child Prison is to thoroughly explore Child Inmates’s talents and interests, to submit additional teaching staff, to develop facilities and infrastructure, and to carry out coaching activities on time.
