Abstract

This research is motivated by two things, namely 1) Many parents choose to send their children to private schools rather than to public schools because they can instill better character. 2) Islamic education in public schools is not separate as in private or Islamic-based schools that are separate in the strengthening of character education with different material. The problems in this research are: how the PAI curriculum can integrate character values in PAI learning, how PAI teachers as models in strengthening character education, and how PAI learning has reinforced character education in the classroom. This research was conducted to determine the strengthening of character education in PAI learning as a solution to the problem that state schools have a strengthening of character education in schools. This research is a type of field research, using a psychological approach, by taking the background of SMA N 1 Bantul and SMK N 1 Bantul, Yogyakarta. Data collection is done through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques used include data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this research are 1) PAI curriculum in SMA N 1 Bantul and SMK N 1 Bantul in PAI learning there are character values, so that the strengthening of character education can be carried out structured. 2) PAI teachers in SMA N 1 Bantul and SMK N 1 Bantul in classroom learning are in accordance with the demands to act affectionately, model and mentor towards students, creating a moral community that can respect both teachers and fellow students, giving training to moral discipline namely by following the applicable rules, building a democratic classroom situation, pleasing in explaining the material. 3) Strengthening of character education through habituation can be done programmed in learning and not programmed in daily activities. Programmed habit includes the beginning of learning to the end of learning in the lesson plan. Unprogrammed habits include routine, spontaneous or incidental activities and examples. Syllabus and lesson plans used and implemented emphasize character values following the material to be taught. SMA N 1 Bantul emphasizes more on religious values and environmental care in every learning and at SMK N 1 Bantul emphasizes more on religious values and discipline in every learning.
