Abstract

This research is motivated by family problems that cause divorce and family failure in educating children. The occurrence of trend changes in society makes middle class very attractive to be allocated. The Muslim middle class’s interest toward integrated Islamic tertiary institutions is inseparable from the concern for values and understandings combined in Islam. Islamic education is a faith, morality and worship education, and one of the solutions to fostering the younger generation amid the changing times. This research was conducted to study the management pattern of Islamic education in middle class Muslim in Yogyakarta at SDIT Utama Insan. This study uses qualitative method with descriptive analysis. Data collection is done through open observation, closed and open interviews, and documentation. The data analysis techniques used are reduction of data, presentation of data, conclusions, and verification of data. The research subjects here are the Yogyakarta Muslim middle class people who send their descendants to SDIT Insan Utama, school administration staff, and sixth grade main teacher. The object of this research is the management of Islamic education in the families of students’ parents. The results show that: Firstly, the middle class of Yogyakarta Muslim community in SDIT Insan Utama considers management of Islamic education in the family to be very important and very decisive in realizing a fulfilling Islamic life, and forming an Islamic child's personality. The management pattern of Islamic education among the Muslim middle class in Yogyakarta consists of a circle containing a circle between parents and children with the process of Islamic education in it. Secondly, the factors that influence the management process of Islamic education in the family consist of two factors. The first factor is internal factors, they are parents and the children; and second factor is external factors consist of non-core families, family and community environments, and existing facilities. These internal and external factors can be the inhibiting and driving factors for implementation of Islamic education management in the family.
