Abstract

This research is motivated by the existence of an issue of incompleteness in teaching Arabic at educational institutions at the Madrasah Aliyah of Islamic boarding school bin Baz Piyungan Bantul Yogyakarta, because the time target allocated is limited, while the teaching material used requires a longer time in completion. And there are textbooks that can be reached in time that are close to the target, but are too concise and sometimes make some students confused. So that requires appropriate teaching material books and easy to understand and fun. This study uses a qualitative and quantitative approach to the form of research and development, using the theory of John Dewey and the simplified Dick & Carey theory. Development of teaching materials is carried out in five stages, namely: 1) conducting needs analysis by observation, study of literature, and student character; 2) arrange the design of the development of teaching materials according to the needs; 3) arrange the initial product teaching material; 4) evaluating the initial product to the expert team and field trials and revising it; 5) manufacture the final product. The results of the study were in the form of textbooks with the title Durūs al-Lugah al-`Arabiyyah li an-Nāṭiqīna bi Gairihā `alā aṭ-Ṭarīqah al-Mubāsyarah li al-Mubtadi’īn for the beginner level, especially new students of the Madrasah aliyah ICBB Bantul Yogyakarta; the structure of teaching materials consists of: a) front cover, b) muqadimah, c) tamhid, d) dalilul mu`allim, e) dalilul muta`allim, f) subject matter consisting of 91 lessons, g) table of contents, h) bibliography. After validating the expert team's test on the developed teaching material book, which is on the aspect of displaying an average score 4 with the „good‟ category; the presentation aspect gets an average score 4 in the 'good' category; the learning aspects with a mean score 4,1 in the „good‟ category; and the material aspect gets a score 4 in the „good‟ category. And from the responses the students got responses with a mean 4,3 in the 'good' category. The meaning gets a positive response. Based on the assessment of these aspects and the responses of students, the Arabic textbooks are suitable to be used as handbooks for learning Arabic.
