Abstract

This research aims to develop a series of studies on H. Abdullah Ahmad's thoughts on Islamic basic education. The author brings back the thoughts of these figures, because he is a figure who has a major contribution to the modernization of Islamic basic education, especially in West Sumatra but not too many know about it. With hope, the conception of basic Islamic education offered by this figure is able to inspire elements of education implementers. The focus of the problem in this study are (1) H. Abdullah Ahmad's thoughts on Islamic basic education seen from the aspects of curriculum, methods, and learning media, (2) Implementation of H. Abdullah Ahmad's thoughts on Adabiah's Islamic basic education in Padang today. This study uses descriptive analytical qualitative research with the type of library research. The subjects in this study are books relating to H. Abdullah Ahmad's thoughts on Islamic basic education and field research as supporting data. The results of this study indicate that (1) H. Abdullah Ahmad's thoughts about Islamic basic education are seen from various aspects, namely: curriculum aspects, method aspects, media aspects. He applied the three aspects by creating a school called 'Adabiah School'. (2) The implementation of H. Abdullah Ahmad's thoughts on Adabiah Islamic basic education in Padang at the present time there are still some that are applied but are more varied than in the early days of the establishment of Adabiah schools both in terms of curriculum, methods and learning media. It aims to improve the quality of Adabiah schools in the future.
