Abstract

ABSTRAK This research was carried out from the phenomenon of small-scale companies that do not have a public relations agency, but they can survive and even managed to lead the market. Though public relations for the truth has a major influence on the progress and development of company. Backed by the condition, the authors wanted to know whether there are actually public relations functions performed by these companies so they can survive and thrive in a very tight of market competition. The study also wanted to uncover the functions of public relations that is done by small-scale companies. The author takes Moviebox as one of the small-scale firms that can exist on the tight competitive entertainment market in Yogyakarta. This research is based on the theory propounded by Dr.Rhenald Kasali in his book of management of public relations, his theory is the fifth phase of the process of public relations. And other theories advanced by Ruslan Rosady namely the theory of public relations functions. By using qualitative descriptive research method, the authors found that there were public relations functions performed by Moviebox. The functions that implemented include the function as a communicator, shaping public opinion, shaping goodwill with the consumer, relationship, back-up management, and corporate image. The system implementation of these functions is begins with gathering the facts, define problems, plan programs, action and communication, and the last is evaluation. These functions successfully brought Moviebox become one of the places of entertainment that is loved by teenagers and young of Yogyakarta. div
