bThe objective of this research was to explore the appreciation of rural society about new information, type of information they need, the criteria of information technology applicable and the design of the technology to display information for rural society. Research was done in February 2006 by distributing the questioner to respondents in rural society in some areas in West Java and Yogyakarta. The results show that respondents express their need of information. They also prefer nice displays with entertaining pictures, sounds and interactively. They commonly use TV receivers in their homes. Based on these results the information technology system which can fulfill the demand of rural society should incorporate TV sets each the specially designed with additional set top box unit.
