Abstract

This study aims to determine the behavior of the students in finding information in the library SMP Negeri 16 Yogyakarta. The results of this study are expected to add insight in the field of library and information science, collection development and service improvement tools of information search (OPAC) to the students. This research is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach, with the object of research students / students of SMP Negeri 16 Yogyakarta, to obtain valid data, the author uses several techniques of data collection, namely: questionnaires / questionnaires, observation, documentation, interviews. The results of this study were 35 male students (50.72%) agree often use the card catalog to find a source of information in the library and 43 female students (60.56%) disagree. 39 male students (56.52%) agreed to communicate with librarians in the face of adversity while 50 female students (70.42%) prefer to try it yourself to use the library without asking the librarian. Behavioral information discovery 39 male students (56.52%) and 52 women (73.24%) agree, to meet the needs of information resources via the school library. If you do not find in the school library 35 male students (50.72%) and 35 women (49.30%) chose the Internet. In the information search behavior revealed 49 male students (71.01%) and 50 women (70.42%) found the source of information to determine the keywords from the title. User behavior information based on knowledge and experience stated 44 people (63.77%) to discover the source of information is required, the next action is to borrow or read. While female students 45 people (63.37%) continued to visit the library because of a lot of information that can be found and already know how to find it. The difference between the behavior of boys and girls are not very prominent only in the use of some of the catalogs, student information behavior in communication with the librarian, user behavior information based on knowledge and experience of ordinary students do. Suggestion for the library, in improving the service process of finding the source of information should, be made by adding additional catalog card collection or provided OPAC and the resources (collection of books) should not only adding new textbooks but the entertainment book (novel / story book) also need to be added.
