Abstract

This research is purposed to know and understand about the life of divorced woman who is being single mother post-divorce related to her self concept, the life of divorced women after divorce, her established self concept and factors that have influenced the establishing of her self concept. This qualitative research used the case study methode that has descriptive kind. This research was done with the depth interview, observation, and documentation study as a technique for getting data. While the technique of data analysis used the comparative data analysis that was said Rini Glaser and Strauss. Subjects of this research are two divorced-women who are being single mothers. The result of this research shows the same history why they are single mother now, both of them divorced with their ex-husbands because of their husband had a love affair with another women. Both of them changed post-divorce, they have different character mainly in self concept which they tend to be shy to have divorced-woman status. However timebytime they have effort to build the positive self-image for them because they realized their self as mother who have responsibility to take care of children. In this case, some factors which influenced the self concept of subjects are; role of parents, close-friend, reaction from family and relationship with family, society, learning from experiences, comparison with others, and social group. Every factor had its each role, there was influence to the negative self-concept but most of them gave the influence to the positive self concept.
