Abstract

This research discussed about the construction of printed mass media toward government officer in relation to the ability of mass media in constructing a news item. Background of the problem was existence of researcher’s suspicion toward the tendency of daily newspaper Radar Tasikmalaya to be performed unfair in publishing news. The tendency is shown by supporting one of the news items. In this case, the news item was Diky Chandra related to his resignation that drew the public attention especially Garut people and East Priangan people in general. The objective of the research is aimed to find out how deep the tendency happened in daily newspaper Radar Tasikmalaya. Researcher started to analyze toward the news text of Diky Chandra resignation as the vice regent which published in daily newspaper Radar Tasikmalaya in September 2011 based on some theoretical reviews, for instance; theory of critics’ paradigm, discourse theory, and theory of mass media and printed news. The research method is the analysis of critics discourse Teun A. Van Dijk model. There are two studies in this analysis model, for instance; study toward news text, and study toward social cognition aspect that collected by interviewing one of the journalists of Radar Tasikmalaya. After studying both two aspects, the researcher found the tendency daily newspaper Radar Tasikmalaya that performed unfair in writing the news text related to Diky Chandra resignation. The fact was reflected by the use of the discourse elements that found in the news text. Most of the elements show the tendency daily newspaper Radar Tasikmalaya in affirming Diky Chandra. Besides, the study toward social cognition aspect focused to the same point. The answers of the interview between the researcher and one of the journalist of Radar Tasikmalaya shown journalist’ mental representation toward his support to Diky Chandra. It can be concluded as one of the factors causing the tendency in daily newspaper Radar Tasikmalaya. Key Words: Analysis of critics discourse Teun A.
